Life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. But you already know that—especially when it’s overcast, cold, and dark by 5 p.m. on a messy winter day. We experience the weight of life in different ways. We can feel the isolation and loneliness of singlehood (I can seriously relate), the despair and hopelessness of unemployment, the confusion about your life direction, and the guilt of indecision and procrastination. Inspiration and motivation are hard to find when we’re still searching for that light at the end of the tunnel. So, when we find ourselves in really challenging seasons, what is it inside of us that keeps us going—not merely to survive, but to thrive in the storm?

Under the Surface

While we’re on the front lines facing our battles, it’s easy to focus on what’s weighing us down. However, what’s often overlooked is what’s happening under the surface—what’s truly going on inside. You’re becoming. What you’re wrestling with isn’t hiding your strength—it’s revealing it. When others run away from life’s struggles, you’re choosing to face them head-on. That’s not simply facing adversity; it’s actively being shaped by it. No matter what you’re going through, each morning you decide to wake up with courage, to face another day, to keep fighting instead of surrendering—you’re living proof you’re not defined by your circumstances.

Finding Meaning

“Even suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.

–  Viktor Frankl

The year following the end of my first marriage was one of the darkest times in my life. It knocked the wind out of my sails. My hopes and dreams for a future with my life partner were shattered, leaving me feeling stuck, lonely, and lacking direction. However, there came a significant moment in the midst of my grief when I realized that all the pain, loneliness, and heartache wasn’t for nothing. I decided to put in the self-work, pursue life coaching, and start a podcast with the goal of helping singles reclaim their passion and purpose. That’s what really kept me going.

Your Why

“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear almost any ‘how.’” – Viktor Frankl

Even in life’s hardest seasons, meaning is possible. Singlehood can become a time to discover who you are, build independence, and find contentment in your own company. Unemployment can inspire learning, helping others, or pivoting toward work that aligns with your values. Confusion about life direction can be clarified through small, purposeful experiments. Guilt or procrastination can find meaning by

exploring why decisions are being delayed—fear, perfectionism, or uncertainty—can uncover personal values, priorities, and hidden motivations. Understanding yourself better gives clarity and meaning. Every challenge holds the potential to grow, connect, and create significance in your life.

Getting back on the Path

This week, I invite you to take a few intentional steps to reconnect with what matters most and begin living from it.

1. Reflect and journal on your lessons and values: Take some time to think about your difficult experiences. What are they teaching you about yourself, your priorities, and what truly matters? Even small insights—like noticing your patience, resilience, or empathy—can uncover hidden meaning in your struggles.

2. Take small, purposeful actions aligned with your values: Don’t wait for circumstances to change—choose one meaningful act this week. Help someone else, learn a new skill, or start a passion project. These intentional steps create momentum and a sense of purpose, even in the middle of challenge.

Your path isn’t something you find—it’s something you build, one intentional step at a time.
